Conscious Talks
FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR OF EDIBLE GARDEN CITY
SESSION TITLE: CHANGE MAKERS IN SINGAPORE
Bjorn started his career as an online marketing specialist after completing his MBA. His stint in marketing brought him to London, where during a particularly harsh winter, he realised that he wanted to be a farmer. Bjorn quit his job, and for the next 3 years, travelled and worked on organic farms across Europe. Having obtained a diploma in Biodynamic Agriculture in East Sussex, Bjorn returned back to Singapore with the dream of combining his knowledge of farming and his business training.
Among many accolades, Bjorn was recently named as one of the finalist for Straits Times Singaporean of the Year. Edible Garden City helps cities become more self-sufficient by growing food in under-utilised spaces like rooftops, beneath viaducts, and everywhere in between. They have built more than 200 edible gardens to date, across restaurants, hotels, schools and homes. Bjorn's efforts are recognised not only for his farming efforts but also the employment opportunities he pushes for the marginalised communities. The commitment towards finding a sustainable solution to managing food waste and achieving greater food resilience in Singapore is Edible Garden City's long term and constant goal.
Join Bjorn as he talks about the transformation of urban spaces into urban farms.
